Treasure Beach Wins and Events

Due to the lag time between publishing and writing, the court case over our almost famous walkway will have come and gone. As I write this month, other battles have been won for Treasure Beach. Some small, but victories all the same. To say " knowledge is power" would be a direct shot at some of the enemies this past year. Treasure Beach has some won some battles, so I hope there is more good news next month. Did you see the new web page for Treasure Beach? I think it's awesome, and my biggest congrats on its success. I don't know how hard it was to get that domain name, but the results are very impressive! Just this past month there are new reports showing that people are watching the internet more and more, and turning off the TVs we loved and all grew up with. Funny because after about a good 60+ year run, it seems that TV is just not cutting it anymore. I dare say the future for TV programming needs to pickup the pace or get left behind soon.

In the past few months we all saw the Palms Grille close down. This month we have a new breakfast place called " Stephen's Fine Foods in its place. Just seeing the old restaurant open is a relief! Another win for Treasure Beach! Now if we can get that old store open near the South entrance things will be back to normal. Several homes sold on Ventura Rd this past month in only days, so that has some good issues too. I don't like to see a vacant home on the street, so it was a win! On a personal win, I've purchased my first web server and plan to have my own hosting domain, soon. I will say this about the future for the internet. Its changing in ways we can't see yet, but, yes folks, that thing we called " the net" is still going through evolution. In the past you had to almost be wealthy to afford your own web server, but prices are falling, and people are starting to run their web sites from home computers. To explain this in simple terms, instead of renting web space from large network communication companies, home owners are now starting to run their own small personal servers on the internet. In the short term I'm concern over how we'll adapt this new business for public privacy. I do see some troubles over this new "do it yourself" web services, but I'm sure it's the future and in the name of progress. Another win this month that went by most of us, is our local resident, Jodie. This dog walking local had throat cancer and he has been going through treatments. Jodie tells me the cancer has been beaten this month and so this marks another win for a local we all see walking his dog each day. A big congrats to Jodie and we hope to continue to see him, and that big dog out there enjoying his walks. On another up for Treasure Beach this month, a few old single wides have left forever this month, now all we can do is hope to see the lots get nice new homes shortly. I do not have any information about the now empty lots, so we'll have to sit and hold on this just yet. Another item on the real estate came this month too. A few homes that were offered for sale have raised their asking prices. Wow, this is interesting and could be the signal we've hit bottom prices around here, and things are turning around soon.

On a sour note this past month, my neighbor Jeff drove his boat over to the public launch ramp, and lost his pickup truck to the water. Jeff explained that he asked someone at the ramp to assist him in getting his boat on the trailer. At some point backing the trailer into the water the fellow was unable to stop the truck and jumped out. The Dodge 4x4 drove itself down into the water until only the roof was showing. Poor Jeff was in shock when I next spoke with him, shaking his head all he could do was say, " I loved that old truck ". Like a family member had passed away, poor Jeff will miss the old road beast. Due to the full dip in the river the truck is what we call a write off apparently so the old Dodge will not be coming home. Our sympathy goes out to Jeff and his old Dodge this month. It's our hope that Jeff will find a new Dodge soon. So, let this be a warning to all that launch their boat at the public ramp! Make sure you know who's driving your truck, and trailer down that ramp. Due to the cold weather this past two months, I've lost small palm trees and grass, so it's going to be a good spring day for some gardening supplier this year. Yes, records broke for January and Febuary so we'll all see each other I'm sure running out for new plants and trees this spring. Yard sales were down all over the island due to the cold weather too, so perhaps we'll see a big surge once all this cold weather moves out. Let's all just say, soon enough it will be a hot day in Treasure Beach! See ya there!

  1. Doing a search I ran into your Treasure Beach Blog. My name is Manny and my wife is Kelly we have been living in St Augustine for 30 some years , my wife as an Occupational Therapist and I did
real estate for years . We bought the Century 21 Bldg. and have been wondering what to do with it. Finally we realized that the Kangaroo store had closed so we are opening a limited convenience store
and some fresh take out food to start. We would appreciate if you give our E Mail address to the Treasure Beach residents so they can suggest what articles they would like us to carry and we will try and
accommodate them. Since this will be some kind of neighborhood store . Hope to meet all the Treasure Beach residents . Question ? Are we in Treasure Beach we would like to join the association and
pay the yearly fee. Thanks for your time Manny and Kelly .
